Hi there moms, dads, aunts and design lovers!

After much denial, my husband and I have finally come to terms with the fact that our New York apartment was getting way too small. A kid’s gotta run and a mom needs a larger bathroom, you know? Fast forward two months and a pregnancy surprise later: and we are inhabiting an actual house in Greenwich. A house I don’t have enough furniture for, but a house that will allow me to design a proper room for Gala, my little girl. This has plunged me deep into the waters of interior design and woah, is there a lot to unpack in the kid’s furniture space.

A huge pet peeve of mine is children’s furniture that looks completely out of place within the rest of the house. A year spent at home has really put into perspective the things we buy for our babies and has forced us to question how we can weave in their spaces as seamlessly as possible within the rest of the house. As a matter of a fact, this quick pivot into more elevated pieces has been a trend in the market for quite a while that will only keep growing. Collaborations like Lorena Canals x Donna Wilson, Leanne Ford for Create & Kids or Calico Wallpaper’s collection with 5 year-old Willow Cope have all been a direct result of the market’s push for more design-oriented products for kids and grown-ups alike.

The trend of children's rooms mirroring adults', with neutral, gender-inclusive palettes and natural materials is here to stay, and I’m so happy about it. Frankly, bright pink plastic in the living room does not spark joy.
