Hi there moms, aunts & design lovers!
It’s fall again. And with fall comes my favorite American holiday: Halloween!
With the festivities interrupted last year, my desire to celebrate the occasion has intensified. Dressing up? Candy? Horror movies? Yes all day! I’m especially excited this year because I’ve been hoping my daughter will remember this one. I’ve spent way too long looking at Halloween decor and other knick-knacks to add some spooky sparkle into her spaces (and mine).
Below I’m sharing the three main decor trends that are dominating this Halloween season:
Ghostly Pastels
Pastels for fall? Actually groundbreaking. Seasonal decor has been undergoing a revolution in the past 5 years. A desire to edit every detail has flooded the market with options. Long gone are the days when everyone bought their Halloween decorations from the same big box store and every home melted together in cauldron of orange and black. You have probably seen the inception of pastel styling rearing its head for the last couple of seasons. Well, let me tell you—it is peaking this year.
This trend is all about embracing the iconography of Halloween (think ghosts, pumpkins, bats), while bringing in sherbet colors that can infuse softness into your decor. Sounds perfect for a girl’s room or a kids’ party, if you ask me.

Mysterious Monochrome
One day is definitely not enough! Extend your Halloween celebrations throughout the entire month and keep the festivities going with decor that can transition from holiday-specific to autumn. Use the ever-versatile black and white combo to create moody spaces that can easily adorn your home all fall.
Get your kids excited for the holiday with decor that can be displayed long before the actual date. Perhaps add a Halloween countdown calendar to the mix to build up anticipation.
This monochrome trend is all about embracing a minimal palette alongside icons such as pumpkins, leaves, owls and houses. Playrooms and common areas will benefit the most by this styling.

Vintage Revival
The past can be comforting, and more so in times of uncertainty. Hence why we’ve been seeing such an uptick on the nostalgia train. Even Bennifer is back and we are all here for it. It’s no surprise a lot of stores are pushing retro Halloween aesthetics this year. This nostalgic and cheerful application to stationery and decor appeals to children and grown-ups alike.
If you are all about the classics, this is the trend for you. Look out for designs from the 1940s through the 1970s. These tend to be less scary and more illustrative in a quintessential Halloween orange and black palette. What I love about this approach is that it’s child-friendly yet refined enough for the entire home.
