Hello, welcome.
It’s Sunday, yes. Let’s try to make it less scary by distracting ourselves with the internet!
Here are a few things things I’ve been reading, listening and making this week that I wanted to share with you:
An apple pie recipe I tried. It turned out pretty good (even for this first timer).
On a recent visit to Storm King Art Center my mother-in-law asked me how I look at modern art. What a thoughtful inquiry! There’s two main questions I always ask myself when looking at sculptures: first, in what context was the piece made and second, how does it interact with its environment. I personally like to move around and experience the piece from different angles. I also found this article that’s a nice field guide.
New York Magazine reports on the demise of the Girlboss. This article, by ex-Teen Vogue Executive Editor Samhita Mukhopadhyay, explores the demise and desire of this near-impossible template of female success.
With the over-saturation of the beauty industry is hard to discern what’s hype and what’s right. These lipsticks by Violette Serrat, the recently appointed Creative Director of Guerlain, are just the right amount of moisturizing in super flattering shades. And the packaging? Oh la la!
If you have time for a podcast, I’ve been madly obsessing over the latest season of Something Was Wrong where shocking stories are told by their protagonists. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say I find liars fascinating.
On my nightstand there’s a finished copy of An Object of Beauty, a novelized take on NYC’s art scene and the crowd who navigates it. I was hooked by the descriptions of art and the inner world of auctioning houses. Written by Steve Martin of all people.
And if you are looking for fall read, here’s some help selecting a title via flow chart.
How do you handle the Sunday Scaries? Let’s keep the conversation going in the comments!
